Materials and Manufacturing Outsourcing

As Production Manager of an aerospace manufacturing company, one of our initiatives was, when appropriate, to outsource materials and manufacturing.  Some of the reasons for this initiative were:

• Reduction of manufacturing costs
• Improvement of product quality
• Increased focus on company core competencies

Examples of this outsourcing initiative included purchase of optical components, printed circuit board population and metal finishing.
